The Letters And Their Meanings

Every Hebrew letter has a name, a sound, AND a specific meaning.  This first chart gives the letter names with equivalent English sounds denoted in purple.  For example, the letters ‘S’ and ‘h’ are purple in the letter name ‘Shin’, therefore, the equivalent English sound for Shin is ‘Sh’.

Note: the letter Pe is sometimes pronounced as ‘P’ and other times pronounced as ‘Ph’.
